What We Do to Heal

BASIC HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Chiropractic care and maintenance uses the basic principle of putting the patient first, since we don’t prescribe drugs to relieve symptoms but rather work with patient’s body through manual adjustments, muscle stimulation and nutrition. In other words, health has more to do with making sure the body is functioning properly rather than making sure the patient feels good for a short period of time. If the body is working the way it should, then the patient should feel great—period.

Through a regular health and wellness care program, working to restore spinal health and mobility, people often find that they have more energy, a better immune system, better mental and physical performance, less headaches, and a better overall lifestyle. When the body is functioning properly, the benefits are endless . . . Better digestion, stronger blood flow, a clear skin complexion, larger lung capacity, increased focus, sinus relief, more strength, flexibility and mobility . . . Just to name a few.
PRENATAL AND PEDIATRIC ADJUSTMENTS
The physical stress of pregnancy can lead to large amounts of discomfort. The mother’s body must undergo numerous changes to accommodate the growing baby. Her center of gravity changing to the front of her pelvis adds stress to the low back, pelvis and hips. It’s common for women to complain of low back pain, sciatica, leg cramps and constipation. This can lead to poor performance in daily routines and difficulties in labor. Chiropractic treatment can relieve these symptoms.

We provide specialized methods to to accommodate pregnancy. These treatments often reduce the need for pain medications and can even decrease labor time. Follow up treatments can help aid in aligning the body after pregnancy, speeding the transition to a healthy post-pregnancy body.

Watching a baby suffer is one the hardest things to witness. Infantile colic is often described as “unexplainable” and “uncontrollable” which can leave parents feeling helpless. If a baby is colicky, the possibility of a headache, neck pain, or back pain may be causing the baby to cry. Through manual examinations chiropractors have found that a majority of infants have spinal abnormalities from birth. These misalignments in the spine could be irritating the baby’s nervous system. Through gentle chiropractic adjustments the baby’s symptoms can be relieved, making the body function properly.
YOUTH ADJUSTMENTS
Stress and trauma to the body and spine commonly begin with the birthing process. Infant’s spines can easily become misaligned from the intense pressure involved in birth. If your child didn’t have chiropractic treatment as a baby, the likelihood that they develop poor posture as a kid is exponential. As babies grow into toddlers, they strain, twist and fall while learning to crawl and walk. Toddlers can take a lot of impact, but it’s not uncommon for injuries to develop into patterns of movement that can pull bones out of alignment.

As for kids, sitting in front of a computer or TV, wearing heavy backpacks, carrying textbooks, not getting enough physical exercise and even lacking confidence can lead to poor posture, having serious repercussions on the spine. Children aren’t always aware of their body to identify a subtle chronic issue. They may not be able to communicate their problems. When a child is in pain, they may act out in anger or seem unfocused. Spinal imbalances can contribute to colic, ear infections and ADHD. Putting them on a regular health and wellness care program can increase their health and performance.
SENIOR ADJUSTMENTS
As adults age, they may find that years living a busy, active life has taken its toll on the body, decreasing their range of motion and causing pain. Regular chiropractic treatment can help relieve pain, improve range of motion, improve immune system function, improve arthritis conditions and decrease joint degeneration, giving seniors the ability to live out even more adventures with their loved ones.

Quality of life should only improve with time. Chiropractic care allows seniors to age gracefully.
MAINTENANCE
Between tough workouts and the rigors of competition, an athlete’s body takes on a ton of stress and can become imbalanced. Chronic aches and pain can easily morph into serious injuries. A large portion of these injuries can be prevented if an athlete is put on a maintenance program.

By correcting spinal alignment and function through manual adjustment, we’re able to maximize the athlete’s performance, improving recovery rates and preventing injuries. We use electrical muscle stimulation, generating blood flow to tight muscles which allows them to release any unnecessary tension. Our team is trained on the top kinesio taping methods to give muscle support whether an athlete is recovering from an injury, working out or competing in an event. Both recovery time and chiropractic care is just as important as the actual workout itself.
INJURY REHABILITATION
Unfortunately, many athletes come to us after they’ve been injured rather than before to prevent injury. But over the course of a few appointments their condition improves. Misalignments throughout the body slow the healing process. The body will try to protect itself with muscle spasms and inflammation. Chiropractic adjustments and customized rehabilitation speed up the recovery process and get athletes back performing better than before.

After the injury has fully healed, we encourage athletes to start a maintenance program to prevent further injury and enhance overall performance. Maintenance can include manual adjustments, electrical muscle stimulation and kinesio taping.
STAY ON THE ROAD
If you’re a professional truck or bus driver, you likely need to be medically certified through the Department of Transportation every two years. The DOT Physical is just a simple health exam, but it’s essential for staying on the road.

When you come in for your appointment, we’ll review your medical history and perform a basic physical exam. Afterwards, we’ll provide you with the proper documentation you need.
BACK PAIN

Whether it’s a mild irritation or completely debilitating, most people experience some form of back pain in their lifetime. Back pain, acute or chronic, mild or severe, can put your life on hold if it’s not treated by a professional. The back is a large area of tendons and ligaments, discs, bones, and muscles. Without understanding the breakdown of the back, it’s usually difficult for patients to locate and address the source of the pain on their own.

Through an evaluation, chiropractors are able to find the source of the back pain and then treat the problem with manual adjustments, electrical muscle stimulation and rehabilitation exercises. Our nutrition experts can see if the pain is caused from a certain food in the patient’s diet, causing poor digestion and weight management which puts stress on the back.
HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES

If a person is suffering from persistent headaches, sinus infections, migraines or depression, the cause may be from a structural imbalance. When the spine moves out of position, it can cause pressure on surrounding nerves. When the nerves are compressed or irritated they cause muscles of the back and neck to tighten, resulting in unrelinquishing pain we know as headaches.

Headaches and migraines can also be caused by diet. We offer food sensitivity testing, that can target types of food that aren’t compatible with your body, helping relieve unnecessary tension.
NECK PAIN
Holding the head up, the neck is made up of complicated structures. Small vertebrae allow for increased mobility but also make the neck more vulnerable to injury and pain. Most neck pain is caused by misalignment of the spine, causing nerves to be irritated. Because every nerve in the body has it’s roots in the spinal column, neck pain can create an impact on the entire body.

The pain may cease, but if the misalignment isn’t treated by a professional it may come back and the problem may worsen to the point that surgery is needed. Basic chiropractic adjustments can not only get rid of the pain, but treatment can prevent injury and the need for surgery and medications.
SCIATICA
Sciatica is a recurring condition that causes pain (sometimes tingling or numbness) in the low back, down the back of the leg and into the foot caused by compression of the sciatic nerve (the longest nerve in the body). The nerve originates in the lumbar spine, extending to the buttocks before traveling down the leg to the ankle and foot. When the vertebrae in the low back are compressed, the roots of the nerve becomes pinched and irritated. Sitting and standing for long periods of time can be difficult. If the condition isn’t treated, it can easily weaken the lower body and cause permanent nerve damage.

Our chiropractors can zero in on the source of the sciatica and determine the most suitable approach for treatment. Gentle adjustments, especially to the low back and hip, that will allow the body to recover its natural alignment.
SCOLIOSIS, LORDOSIS AND KYPHOSIS

Typically, scoliosis begins as a minor lateral bend in the spine that gradually progresses over time. Diagnoses is made when the spine curves more than ten degrees to the right or left. Extreme scoliosis can lead to severe health consequences such as sciatica, decreased lung and heart capacity, painful menstruation and physical disability.

Lordosis and kyphosis are both excessive sagittal (forward and backward) curvature of the spine. Kyphosis is an exaggerated forward rounding of the back most common in older women. Lordosis is an inward curve, most commonly found in the lower back as a result of a kyphotic curve in the upper back. Age-related kyphosis and lordosis normally occurs after osteoporosis weakens spinal bones to the point that they crack and compress. Bad posture due to use of mobile phones, tablets and computers can cause ligaments in the spine to loosen, causing the spine to curve unnaturally and put unnecessary tension on the trapezius muscles, rhomboids and extensor muscles.

If the condition is discovered early on and the patient gets chiropractic treatment, these three conditions can be prevented from advancing to a debilitating state. An evaluation will determine the presence of scoliosis, kyphosis and lordosis. Once the issue is identified, the chiropractor will perform appropriate therapies to reverse the body’s compensations and assist in the restoration process.
DISC INJURY
It’s important to seek chiropractic treatment promptly when dealing with a disc injury, to prevent permanent damage to the spine. Discs are pads that lie in between each vertebrae and separate your vertebrae from one another. Each disc has a tough outer portion and a soft gel-like center. They act as cushions and shock absorbers, so that the bones don’t make contact with each other.

There are three types of disc injuries that can cause back and neck pain, weak legs, sciatica, and loss of bladder and bowel control. A protruding disc occurs when the disc become asymmetrical and the gel is pushed out or bulging. A herniated disc is the condition when the disc material has ruptured to the point that the gel pushes outward. And a disc extrusion is the worst type of disc injury, occurring when the gel balloons extensively into the area outside of the vertebrae or breaks off from the disc.

Chiropractic treatment involves a thorough assessment of your back, including x-rays if necessary, in order to determine the disc injury and the appropriate treatment. The treatment included gentle adjustments or decompression to the spine to relieve pressure on the nerves, relieving discomfort.
WHIPLASH
Whiplash occurs when the head and neck are “whipped” from back to front, often a result from car accidents and high-impact sports. Many people don’t even realize they have this injury until several weeks later when the problem becomes persistent and leads to other issues like disc injuries, misalignments in the spine, irritated and damaged nerves, and stretched ligaments and pulled muscles in the neck.

Symptoms from whiplash can range from neck and shoulder pain, to dizziness and depression. Through gentle chiropractic treatment, people can recover and find relief after a whiplash injury.
ARM AND LEG PAIN
The shoulder and hip joints are two of the most frequently used joints. And even though these joints have the most mobility, injuries and pain are common. Obvious injuries like stressing a joint through repetitive use at work or during a recreational hobby, dislocating a shoulder playing sports, or pinching a nerve by sleeping in an incorrect position can be easily self-diagnosed. Sometimes the injury isn’t so obvious and can worsen over time, finally impacting muscles and nerves until the pain is severe. Bursitis, arthritis, tendonitis and misalignments of the spine can cause chronic arm and leg pain. Misalignments throughout the body slow the healing process. The body will try to protect itself with muscle spasms and inflammation.

Through chiropractic care, the source of the pain can be identified and the healing and recovery process can begin with manual adjustments, electrical stimulation and rehabilitation exercises.
CARPAL TUNNEL
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition usually accompanied by sensations of burning, pain and tingling, that happens when the median nerve in the wrist is compressed by swelling of the palm. Traditionally, there were a few options to deal with this problem including surgery and medication. Chiropractors are now having success at relieving the condition by using manual adjustments, realigning bone structure and taking pressure off of nerves.
SHOULDER PAIN
The shoulder joints are some of the most frequently used joints in the body. Though these joints have the most mobility, injuries and pain are common. The causes of shoulder pain are endless, but a few include neck and upper back tightness, frozen shoulder, spinal misalignment, arthritis, overuse and repetitive stress, athletic injuries and automobile accidents. If shoulder pain lasts for more than a week, comes and goes frequently, or worsens in the evening, the shoulder is probably injured and needs professional treatment. Other signs of injury are unusual snapping or clicking sensations during movement, loss of mobility and trouble carrying or lifting objects.

Through chiropractic care the source of the pain can be identified and the healing and recovery process can begin. The treatment usually includes manual adjustments, electrical stimulation and rehabilitation exercises.
